Since 1990, Martine Journet & Gerard Nougarol has started their researches on local Shamanism and Shamans in Sulawesi, Indonesia. The film “lndo Pino” grew to be their accumulated efforts on Wana people's Shamanism for ten years, and won them the first prize in the “Bilan du Film Ethnographique” in Paris, March 2002.
Indo Pino is a Taw-Waliya.
In the Wana language, the word “Taw” means “man”, “human being”. The word “Waliya” designates “beings of the forest”. This is how the Wanas call their shamen: the “Taw-Waliya”.
