Solrun Hoaas was born in Norway in 1943. She studied theatre in Kyoto after a degree in Arts and Social Anthropology from Oslo University. She settled in Australia in 1972, completed a Master's Degree in Asian Studies and worked in the Japanese Dept. at Australian National University, then began solitary filming in Okinawa and gained a Graduate Diploma in Film from Swinburne Institute Technology, 1980. Since then she has produced and directed a number of films.
